The more I look at this there is of course no denying that they are all beautiful buildings, but they just do not fit in.

And this is not something to me that would fit in the category of "eventually it will fit in." They simply just do not (IMO).

Not to bring up repetition, but the Twins just fit in so perfectly. There is simply no other structure that could have done a better job. I am thankful I got to witness that skyline for the time I did, but I do not think I will be so pleased with the new one. The buildings themselves are beautiful, but they don't blend with the skyline.

To me there is just too much going on. The Twins were plain and bold, but the new buildings just do not have that. They are to a degree, but its not the same.

Never paid any attention to that!

It's good though, that the tower is still on target to meet the construction timetable!

I think thats what I meant. NY simply doesnt have the glass for the new complex to fit well. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

No 2nd Obs Deck.

I've just now seen this done in the CS thread, and I was wondering if it can be done here.

Mark or whoever is in charge of this thread, could you please add the words
NO 2ND OBS DECK, SO DON'T ASK to the title of this thread?

Periodically, this thread and the ones in the WTC Redevelopent section seem to get flooded with questions concerning a 2nd obs deck on the roof of the tower or in the spire, when there was nothing coming from the officials on that.

Thank you.

But the Twins were ALWAYS criticized, right up to 9/11/01, of "not fitting in" with the skyline, of simply overwhelming it. People have a wonderfully selective memory of their attitudes towards them, nowadays.

People are also exaggerative of their histories. By 1990, the towers were solidly accepted as a part of the skyline. I rarely heard criticism after that period of time. The World Financial Center truly balanced out the scene.

The new renderings of the Trade Center are wonderful. Unfortunately, after comparing STR's old World Trade Center thread to the renderings of the new WTC1, I am disappointed, to say the least, that the new tower will not be flooded in natural light. The bunker is a great mistake.

The bunker is being put there mainly to discorage or thwarf and ideas that a would-be terrorist might have of planning an attack from the ground, but it WILL be made to fit in with the rest of the tower.

And just for the record, Silverstain had a rough time trying to fill the original 7 WTC with tenants as well.

Thank god for Foster+Rogers towers...

I think the tower is fantastic I just don't get why floor 20 starts after the base. What's going to be in the base anyways? Somebody probably asked this already sorry if I just did it again.

The tower's construction is late. I really want this tower to begin to raise up.

To begin with, the base DOES occupy a space that's equivelent to 20 floors. Therefore, the base contains mechanical floors for the tower.

Nick, blame that one on Pataki. He screwed up the startup process so badly for Ground Zero to get underway with the rebuild.

As a matter of fact, you're right! We should have been seeing the steel in the sky for this one. I had hoped to see it rising simutaneously with 7 WTC, but that wasn't the case.

Nice rendering at the top of the page! The only thing I don't like is the ring surrounding the spire on the Freedom Tower. When was it changed from that elegant thinner faceted ring seen in earlier renderings to this clunky new cylindrical version?

Patience! This is the most complicated construction project in history (??) taking place. That being said, I agree with you about the construction being late and wanting to see substantial progress. Hopefully by this time next year the steel will start to soar to the sky.
