294 Portage Ave, in the Summerset building, the space previously occupied by Dollar Tree, that building is owned by Canad Inns.

Would definitely be a better spot than the backside on Graham, across from Browns. Should make for a lively area if they take up that space.

Tavern United closing is a bit of a shock. That place had such a great venue location and rooftop patio. I truly hope another sports bar opens up, it has such great potential to be a top notch venue in the city.

A brewpub would be a great fit there and a big draw IMO.

Another win for Graham Ave with one of the few places (the rooftop patio) that actually draw people there closing :/

^ this is great news for Graham Avenue. Canad hasn't invested a penny into that place in 25 years. It was a massive, missed opportunity and will be replaced by something much better.

In ten years we will look back at Graham and wonder how we had the foresight to make that happen....just be patient.

I respect the optimism man but until the gigantic parking lots that take up a half of the frontage get developed, theres so many headwinds against this. This is screaming the transot switch to me - half measures with little actual investment that are needed to make this work. I truly hope im eating thoae words in a decade.

Canad Inns was just leasing the building from True North. I imagine they will do their own thing in that space.

It would be great for Lake of the Woods to expand there. Their current space is so small. We love their brewhouse in Kenora.

Tavern closing hopefully to be replaced by something much better. What was the sports bar called in the Snap Fitness location (for lack of a better description in my brain this morning)? If we're comparing to shark club for example. Shark Club has the gaming lounge. otherwise it's not rally that great of a place. I dislike the layout there.

Regardless, I would think opening a super sports bar of some kind right next to the arena for 40+ NHL nights a year, plus Moose, concerts, etc should be a big draw. Something new around Canada Life is needed.

After more than 20 years with the Canada Life Centre anchoring downtown, the arena district should be much further along in terms of street-level vitality and energy than it is today. It once showed real promise — with the arrival of the Metropolitan Theatre, the anticipation around True North Square, and new spots like Browns — but that momentum has since stalled and even reversed with the closure of Moxies and Tavern.

It’s particularly disappointing that True North Square’s prime ground-floor CRUs were filled with banks. That decision largely killed the potential for an active, inviting plaza. While Hargrave Market is excellent, its second-floor location creates a frustrating disconnect from the public square below.

Hopefully, the upcoming facade renewal of City Place will include opening up more street-level frontage for food and retail uses. That kind of activation is exactly what’s needed to bring genuine vibrancy to the SHED.
