Surprised as most others are, not just at any large new construction office tower on the verge of moving forward in Chicago, but at the location choice for a blue chip corporate law firm. Detached from conventional location fundamentals (outside traditional 'strike zone' for both city and suburban rail commuters, federal and state courts as well as peer firms). It's not wildly west of the 'strike zone', but it is a bit west (with the psychological factor of the expressway making it feel even further outside it). Not difficult to imagine the desire to stand out in multiple ways, mixed with a healthy dose of chasing the trendy - and I'd think the massive runway for views from within - are winning out for Sidley here.
