Despite the terms of the memorandum of understanding between the city and the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh nation, which is publicly available, rumours persist: It will all be for sale. It will all be Airbnbs. Renters will have no protections. The studios have no closets.

Halls clarifies.

“The tenants at Sen̓áḵw are protected by Residency Tenancy Act, the same as rentals everywhere else in B.C.,” said Halls. No, it’s not a secret strata scheme. No, the units cannot be used for Airbnb or similar short term rentals. Yes, the units will all have closets.
