Here's the cottage. That's picnic bench and a storage box in the front. Would be a major PITA if you had to go inside to get something. But, this pales in comparison to places elsewhere where some houses got walloped by snow drifts.





And I saw some photos a couple weeks back from Niagara. I've only been to Niagara in the winter like three times but it was always above zero. Here's what the surroundings can look like due to the mist.

-11C with a wind chill of -18 and mainly cloudy. Brief sunny peaks. However, started snowing lightly this afternoon. It's not even milder when it snows. Just bitter cold all the time.

Low of -19C (wind chill of -22) overnight. Cold.

The warmspot was Sisters Island, BC at 9.9C.

-13C and a light snow shower in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to a balmy -5C this afternoon.

Snow, freezing rain, rain tomorrow.

We dropped to -9.4 last night and currently sit at -5.5 and we're heading to +1 at some time this evening. The forecast for the next 14 days looks pretty rosy compared to winter thus far with all but 1 day forecast to be above 0 and some nights too. After this forecast period, it's just two or three weeks (historically) that the temps start to warm up.

-9C with a wind chill of -16 and cloudy this afternoon. Slowly getting rid of this arctic air. Never want to see it again.

Low of -13C (wind chill of -21) overnight.

The warmspot was Qualicum Beach, BC at 8.8C.

The warmest low was Sandheads, BC at 6.2C.

Alert, Nunavut spiked briefly above freezing (all-time January high) this afternoon... that is 10 degrees warmer than our "mildest" January temperature this month.

Timing is everything. I went out after the rain stopped and got back home just as it was starting up again.

Overcast, hovering around freezing. Still lots of snow. Most sidewalks still blocked. Rain warning for tonight so there will definitely be a few new lakes around the city. I'm usually safe on a hillside.

It will be a dog's breakfast of precipitation today with rain, freezing rain and snow. The meteorologists don't really know what's going to happen in Moncton. We have freezing rain and snowfall advisories out.

Ours is January 29th; an example of seasonal lag. That being said with a chaotic continental climate, our coldest day could be anywhere from December to early March

Edmonton's Coldest day was Jan 19 1883 at 49.4C. The average coldest is in about a 2 week zone from that date. But the last few years it has also been the warmest date in Jan.

This year though I suspect a cold wave since the Polar vortex is week and will come down. Snow wise for Dec we were at about 400% of our average. around 30 - 40cm fell. My snowblower got a good work out this year. And I noticed most hardware stores were out of snowblowers this year. They practically were giving them away last year. I just wished my fitness tracker did snow shoveling.

Have to Wait until March to get back to Victoria. Unless business takes me there sooner. By then I will need to see some green.

Absurd warmth in the Arctic.

Alert, NU hits 1.8C breaking the monthly record yet again. Only 2 January days above zero in history are the last 2.

That mark is higher than November, February and March all-time monthly highs. And close to the April one (2.4C).

A couple of northern communities still have open sea water. Pangnirtug Baffin Island has little to no snow, and there are boats still in the harbour. I don't recall ever seeing that.

Today in Vancouver, it's been rainy with wet snow, no snow downtown though, and a high of about 5°C.

This is the first snow I've seen in the city this year.
