Disappointed to hear that will be another Stellas. There's already one on Corydon, by the train tracks. We don't need more overpriced, mediocre brunch options.. $20 for avocado toast?? $18 for three pancakes?? I feel as though people dine there for the aesthetics alone, which aren't even that picturesque.

To add insult to injury, I've also heard a rumor that the EQ3 bistro in Polo Park will be turned into a Stella's sometime this fall/winter as well.

Re Stella's food costs -- if you think they are too high then put in your own labour for free and eat at home.

The other reality about Stella's is if people weren't going to all these locations and making them profitable they would very quickly stop showing up more places.

Everything is more expensive now. Especially restaurants - I don't think Stella's is somehow an outlier.

I was also thinking that Stella's group were behind the Zu's new eatery as they got their start in The Village.

I think peoples opinion on Stella's depends on which side of the "unionization attempt" you were on.

Stella's likely treats their employees no better or worse than any of their local comparable. It's restaurant work, it's not great - anywhere.

I dont like union busting attempts. Im a big rights guy, people have a right to free assembly and free expression, if people want to assemble and make a joint agreement to collectively bargain, all the power to them.

Yep, all the power to them - but they also risk exactly what happened (I wonder if the union organizers told them that...). There is no restaurant that would accept or survive a unionization attempt.

There are plenty that survive unionization but I digress, not exactly relevant to Winnipeg restaurants haha.

I wouldn't have a problem paying that price if the food was good.

Striaght up. For the price you can go to Juneberry, Clementine, Frenchway, etc and receive a far superior meal for similar or even cheaper prices.

I used to love Stella's but I went there a couple weeks ago and was blown away by the cost....

Their prices went up and their quality plummeted. It's interesting, like you said, to see them still thriving despite all of the negative press about how they operate. Even before they got cancelled, their quality hasn't been good since, what. 2017?

I went once about a year ago and it's not that bad, but I don't see any reason to go back. The food is pretty mediocre for the price.

That is absolutely and factually untrue. There are many successful restaurants in Winnipeg which are union shops. Most are part of hotels however the Portage Ave Tim Horton's near Wall St is an example that pays both union dues and franchise fees without issue.

Lmao, interesting take. It's more about what you get for what you pay. Like other forumers posted, you can get better food, for the same price, some where else, and at some places, better for a lower price. I don't think it's about the price point, but more the quality. Anyone would be upset about getting sub par food for higher prices.

Sure, I guess "restaurants" that are part of massive, national chains or within a hotel may do this. But name a similar restaurant that operates like Stella's is mostly local and is unionized.
