I think the cycling lanes are pretty wide through the main bridge span - 4-5m bidirectional is pretty good when you compare to some of the tighter downtown lanes (as little as 2.7m).

One of the road closure permits for the bridge has been updated to finish on July 24 maybe we'll see the cycling/pedestrian lane open by the end of the month?

We all know the final design of the bridge portion is not complete, right? There isn't even funding for it.

I assume the $54 million figure is with north loops removal and other related projects involved. The interim pathway was something like $12.5 million back in 2020?

I think those ramps exist because the pedestrian sections near the Fir off ramp dissapear since there's not enough room for both cycling/pedestrian lanes. So anyone in a wheelchair or scooter would be stuck. The chairs are probably there just as an excuse for people not to use it as a skateboard/bike jump.

People like to complain, and it does look pretty unfinished, but this is still a great project, huge improvement over the previous condition, I walked over the other day and there was piles of people walking/biking/scootering across where before it was only the very brave who would try that.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get stuff built on the new land or for the final design to get put in place.

I'd argue that a large part of that is the perception of an improvement, as well as hype over something new; basically the only changes to walkability are two less cloverleafs and a pair of traffic lights.

The Fir Ramp, at last check, is still only wide enough for two people at once.

But the traffic lights are a huge improvement over waiting for people to stop at all those intersections and it is more safer for pedestrians with more protection from cars. The only thing missing is a staircase down to Granville Island which would actually be worthy of hype.

Not sure how preferable Granville is over Burrard or Cambie for cyclists.

That new light on the Howe ramp is useful, sure, but the 4th ramp has maybe one car per minute, so nothing really changed there.

The walking lane is a full foot below the sidewalk; it's basically part of the bike lane. Extending the actual sidewalk would've cost a little extra, but would've also actually improved walkability rather than just generating memes.

I'm not sure what you are talking about - having two full lanes, protected by a concrete barrier, is a night and day change from walking /riding on the narrow sidewalk right beside traffic. Plus you no longer have to worry about crossing the pacific loop ramp and the pair of traffic lights is a huge difference maker to safety. It is not a perception, it is a very big real difference.
