totally agree...if this little bit of money caused 66 housing projects to apply....do it every year....the province could find that money easily.

I doubt PP will get a non-confidence vote to fly. He's trying but they have zero momentum. Will be another interesting election season for sure.

This is an excellent idea. Wpg Foundation was looking at putting money towards the AT bridge off River Ave a few years back so bricks and mortar contributions seem to be within their purview.

Yes it is. It appears Shoal Lake 40 First Nation is the owner and Paragon is the developer. Similar to the building under construction at 380 Young St where Opaskwayak Cree Nation is the owner and Paragon is the developer.

I believe you are correct as that was the old R&R restaurant site that closed earlier this year.

Maybe by partnering with Shoal Lake 40 it brings their costs down.

It is pretty crazy that one 25MM grant can spur 11 projects - that's a lot of new density for a low low cost.

More impressive is that it drew interest from 66 projects. That means there is 66 proposed projects out there that are all in the process of development and could be under construction in the next year or so.

I thought they were gonna build homes for veterans experiencing homelessness on 145 Transcona Blvd? I guess it’s no longer exclusive to veterans but to PWDs too. I wonder if they will keep the name Winnipeg Kinsmen Veteran’s Village.

Homes for Heroes is separate. They're probably colocating to prevent duplication of services. Lots of the veterans in that village will be amputees from IEDs and mines in Afghanistan so it makes sense to put them near a disability focused development. Homes for Heroes is doing God's work.

Quite a few of the ones I know that applied are only viable if they get HAF funding. Without it they will go back in the drawer.

Nice stuff glad to see it. I think once interest rates drop mid-end of next year, a few big ones will likely be announced that are probably just waiting for that. These projects all seem like good use of the fund money. I like someone’s point about the repurposing of dead space helping pressure the development of new space. That sounds correct.

^ i'm not sure that's the reality....if a site isn't economically viable for development, it won't suddenly become viable because the 1960's office building down the street has become residential.

The office conversion is likely more viable without public funding than parking lot fillers are.
