You're getting too caught up on Liberty Sky. My point about Liberty Sky is that it was continuous downgrade and I'm very disappointed about it. We went from this:

To what we got. MASSIVE downgrade and I'm seeing that here.

I feel like we're gonna see another downgrade and we'll have to settle because something is better than nothing.

Until your entire skyline and downtown is a bunch of somethings and nothing aesthetically appealing or of any substantial height.

Comrade, you’ve accidentally posted on the wrong forum site again. This isn’t SkyscraperPage.com … this is SettlePage.com

We settle for less ‘round here on these threads.

I hope we get another license plate for the 2034 olympics. I have always wanted the 2002 olympic plate. Who designs the slc olympic logos and branding anyway? Hopefully the new logos are reminiscent of the 2002 olympics or at least good...

It seems for pretty much every olympics the logo is unveiled 5 years out and the marketing begins at that point, slowly intensifying as the games come closer. It will be cool to see things pop up around the city and I hope a lot of it is permanent

I loved that plate. Unfortunately, by the time I bought a car of my own (that wasn't a parent's) it was 2007, and the Olympic plate was long gone. I'd imagine DMV will have to offer some kind of Olympic plate again.

On that note, thank heaven the Arch plate is still available. The Skiier plate has really bad contrast and it's very difficult to read a plate number against the background (dark blue on light blue). The IGWT plate looks good as a clean blue-on-white plate, but the slogan is a bit cliquish (e.g., "In God we trust, not 'in Allah/Yahweh/Brahman we trust'" (I'll pitch those alternatives to the Legislature next session )

A nice simple "E Plurubus Unum" plate would be nice.

Here's hoping an Olympic plate will look clean and nice and not obnoxiously busy.

A new flag licence plate that didn't look half bad was cut from the flag bill before it passed.

The arch is the only license plate worth getting. Hopefully they never get rid of those ones.

That flag license plate would've been awesome.

/\/\/\ They need to get rid of the black license plates. It's way too generic and multiple states have it now.

Disagree. The black license plate is my favorite and its the one I have. Not everyone wants/needs to advertise where they're from in full blown technicolor.

Ski Utah was my second choice, then Arches. I don't like the new Utah flag.

If the city does what Ryan Smith wants and does away with the planning commission review for buildings over 250 ft, how rare would that be? Are there other cities that side-step that process?

Multiple states do have the black plate now. Noticed it in Colorado. Pretty soon we’ll all have the same license plate state to state

A lot of Salt Lake Trib readers are lighting Ryan Smith up like he is some evil demon out to destroy Salt Lake. I think planning commissions should be used to approve major projects. However, the Salt Lake Planning commission has been very unreasonable with approving anything that is progressive for downtown. It is almost like they do not want Salt Lake to take the next step in our downtown progression. So, I don't blame him for wanting to get them out of the way. But, we shouldn't just give him a green light to do anything either.

I think skyscrapers absolutely should go through a design review process, no matter my feelings on the planning commission currently.

Always need a "generic" plate. Since the plain-white "Greatest Snow on Earth" plates disappeared in 2007, the black ones fit the bill.

CA also does retro plate (yellow-on-black). NV does white on blue. And they all look great. And none of them replace the artsy standard issue plates in each state. Just an option for people who want a simpler look.

Evidently, Utah's black plates are very popular:

Absolutely. Actually, most buildings should go through a Design Review, IMO.

Sure, I agree. I just don't see a need for him to go straight to "this process is holding me back, let's get rid of it or let me run through it." To the point about the Trib commentors, I hope his plans pan out but this push does seem a little entitled.

I was able to get some pictures of downtown from the 26th floor of the COB. The west and east sides were closed off, so this was really the only angle I could get.

I am okay with a design review but until Salt Lake gets a planning commission that is actually experienced and educated in the idea of city and urban planning, I'm fine circumventing 'em. The planning commission is a joke.

One other gripe I have about Utah license plates is that there are so many different options. Yet many states just have one...Florida, Washington, etc. Yet, us Utahns think we need to have a plethora of license plates. What gives?
