That, or I believe there was a variance he asked to do some sort of covered connector between the building and the market in the last update. I thought I read it was to create a covered corridor between the two buildings. Maybe it was for this?

I remember something about that. It came into being when they removed the loading dock plan didn't it? I suppose it could be a deliveries and staging area during construction with the connector built towards the end of the process.

Both are true, in a sense:

99 King Street development began in 2021 with the demolition of two buildings, including the former Woolworth’s building. Currently, existing foundation walls are being removed, and construction on the new foundation is expected to start in August 2024. Staff recommend a temporary license agreement with the developer for continued use of South Market Street during construction, with a proposed license fee of $1,000.00. The City also plans to petition the Province for private legislation to grant an easement over South Market Street by Spring 2025.

The mayor just posted about it on social media:

Quote:
“At last night’s council meeting, we entered into a License Agreement with W/L Holdings Inc. for the use of South Market Street during the construction of 99 King. This will give the developer room to store equipment.

Existing foundation walls are being removed, and construction on a new foundation is expected to start this August. It’s been a long time coming but I’m very glad to see the pieces starting to come together”.

So it’s to allow the developer to have more room to store equipment during construction. Construction on the new foundation starts next month in August.

Awesome view! Thank you! Will this be a regular update location?

From the King St side yesterday, I could see a long-buried slate wall that must have been behind the Woolworth foundation, or even behind the foundation that preceded it. Should have taken a picture, but I was trying to make it to the cigarette store minutes before closing.

I'll do my best, at least for the next few months I'm here every day.

They are jackhammering the entire bottom of the site now, no doubt working to get the depth needed for underground parking levels.

Say what you will about Percy’s Hole, but looking at that last photo and the buildings around it, this is a beautiful site with a ton of potential.

Agree 100%. Especially the hilltop location overlooking the harbour and the bay. I really hope the final building design is open to what I expect will be commanding views and not closed off with smallish windows and balconies. The early renderings have left me a little worried.

Some big wigs touring the site today? That would explain why they had people working until almost 9pm last night.

Could be engineers. Notice they've been careful to dig well away from Charlotte St so far. Perhaps they're waiting for the (rapidly approaching) full rebuild of Charlotte from King Sq N to King Sq S to commence before digging up to the property line.

The new renderings are now installed on the fencing around the site:

So, no balcony's except corner units on top two floors? To me that's a real fail.

......and those cornice thingies? really not sure on those.

Am I counting wrong or has it shrunk from 12 floors to 11?

Overall my reaction is...."The 1920's/1930's called, they want their design back." I can certainly see how they are trying to match the IOL building and the Admiral Beatty.

Having said all that, I do like the colour sceme.

It's ok for what it is. The corners need to go.

With every new rendering of this project, I throw up a little bit more in my mouth. Whereas with each rendering with Fundy Quay, I get more and more excited.

I hate the layered colouring scheme, and not sure what this is for as it is not tied to any era or architectural style. For the base to align with the streetscape, maybe, but the three transitions? Why????

And get rid of the vanity corner towers so it doesn't look like an upside down office file cabinet from IKEA.

Too Harsh? LOL
