Shirley Douglas was a superlative actress, and Francine Racette played the mother in Louis Malle's all-time masterpiece Au Revoir Les Enfants. Racette also appeared with Sutherland in the mediocre 1977 Canadian thriller The Disappearance.

Au Revoir Les Enfants is an amazing film.


Made me look up Keifer to see if that was his mom, and I forgot, his mom Shirley Douglas was the daughter of Tommy Douglas, former premier of Saskatchewan, founder of the NDP, and the “Greatest Canadian”

Indeed. I first saw it as a teenager in the early-'90s, when it was shown a number of times after midnight on CBC, and I was transfixed from the opening scene, when Quentin bids farewell to his mother and boards the train, a heartbreaking scene set to Schubert's achingly poignant "Moments Musicaux, No. 2". That quickly became one of my most-loved pieces of music. I included it in the slide show for my dad's funeral.

As for Sutherland himself, my fav film of his is probably Roeg's stylish, chilling riddle Don't Look Now, or Ordinary People. Murder by Decree, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Chabrol's lesser-known Blood Relatives, and Johnny Got His Gun are also worth mentioning.

We woke up to some great news this morning.



Families aren't really used to losing people without a trace anymore. It still happens, but it's more common to find the vessel and have some idea what happened, even if the bodies aren't recovered. And the amount of time they were gone cannot be survived if they were in the cold North Atlantic.

I've been noticing these camera things popping up in random spots, mostly have seen them in various parts of Surrey, I also saw one in the Seattle area and Bellingham down in the States. They are easily spotted by their blue lights.

Are they popping up anywhere else in Canada?

This one is in Surrey at a gas station on King George, there is also a Tim hortons inside and outside the store on the street side you often would see drug addicts doing their thing hanging out, passed out etc there but since the camera went up it seems like it is keeping them away.

So after living 11 years in the “countryside” of Japan, the depopulation of the area is becoming increasingly apparent. One cheeky silver lining to this issue is that it has created a wealth of great filming locations for zombie / post apocalyptic films!

this couple is traveling in Canada, they have been traveling from tip to tip, from the bottom of South America to Alaska, the Arctic Ocean. It took them 4 years to do so, covid kept them stuck for a while, they have the time as they are in no rush and may end up spending months in any given place they stop.

I only started to follow or watch them when they posted their crossing into Canada at the Peace Arch and am at their beginning of Alaska videos now. Anyway in some videos they hook up with fellow Argentinians who are also doing the same trip and was wondering do Canadians ever attempt the same trip? It seems to be a thing amongst South Americans to traverse from tip to tip.

This is a newer one where they stop in Banff, you will need subtitles.

It's funny, I noticed their channel just a few days ago and watched their first few Canada videos.

Laughed out loud when I saw this, and just had to snap a pic. This is the most gas-guzzling and dangerous private passenger automobile on the roads outside of a Hummer or a tank, but at least the owner's chakras are aligned!

they posted a video from Winnipeg yesterday, they stopped over and trekked by train up to Churchill in the hopes of seeing Polar Bears. They have left their van temporarily in Calgary where there is a large Latin American population.

My first thought was this must be a hearse. But it's missing a few details. May as well be one, given the likelihood of a death if it does hit anything or anyone.
