This Gerrard Village pic from 1963 is interesting to me, since it feels like the kind of hipster neighbourhood that small, provincial places first carve out, a few storefronts at a time. For example, this
strip in Kitchener, or this strip in
Sudbury.
The Yorkville pictures from the same thread are just 5 or 6 years later and, while it's definitely no Carnaby street, the vibe feels a lot more "big city".
It shows just how much things changed during the 1960s.
