I'm not sure how contaminated that land is east of of the malt plant. CN had a dump site by Ravenhurst years ago so that might impact development due to potential methane gas migration.

After discussing with some people about the poor state of Cineplex event screenings, has there ever been any reason for the fact that Cineplex refuses to update the Scotiabank Theatre? It houses the only IMAX screen in the city but doesn't even have reclining seats like almost every other theatre in the city. It's very bizarre that they built the Junxion at KP but still treat Polo like the "flagship" location even though it's the worst one in the city. Have there ever been any rumors regarding a renovation or expansion of the location?

came across this for "DASCH Abilities head office on Buffalo place. " renovate an existing architectural landmark building in Winnipeg and build a large addition connected to it. The new addition needed to respect the architectural character of the existing building, maintain as many of the existing trees on the site as possible, and provide a signature building

Client: DASCH Inc.
Main Floor Area: 11,250 ft²
Second Floor Area: 11,900 ft²
Third Floor Area: 6,320 ft²
Total Building Area: 29,470 ft²
Construction Completion: 2025

Looks cool! Kinda wish that businesses built cooler buildings closer to the city centre but at least this isn't on the complete periphery.

Cool looking building. But it's in the office/industrial ghettos of south Winnipeg. Putting it at the corner, or any other location in that area, won't help that situation.

They are currently doing a major reno of the existing building. This addition will hopefully come in 2025 dependent on funding.

Hey guys, with Montreal's huge announcement of a 20000 unit development, it had me wondering, what major infill areas does Winnipeg have left? I was thinking and it seems like a bunch of the open areas inside the city are filling up or are spoken for already (Parker Lands, Polo Park, Canada Packers, Kapyong, etc). What's left, anything brewing that anyone here is aware of?

I'm starting to wonder if it was vapourware. Wasn't it announced two or three years ago now already or am I imagining things? You'd think there'd at least be some signage or preparation work done by now.

We desperately need this.
WAA have been holding this back for years.
There are already a 16 floor apartment Polo Park Towers and another on K Edward or near.
People know there will be airport noise and need to be reminded the airport came first.
However, a dense population at Polo Park would ensure the malls future, make the are livelier and safer with people living, working, shopping, eating.
Someone once suggested something like this happen at Dominion Centre in St B.
Reimagine the site and make better use of the land.
A safer area & great bus route.
We need housing anyways.
Put it where transit is, will be and more eyes and ears make it safer.

It was announced in January 2023 and not a peep since...

https://www.shindico.com/index.php/press-releases/938-polo-transformation-plans - some pretty cool renders that could totally be transformative

https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/big-plans-unveiled-for-polo-park-development-1.6228979 - CTV article on it

I really hope this is legitimate and Shindico is still going through with this.

I remember thinking at some point that it was a peacock idea that wouldn’t come to fruit for 10-20 years

I have zero faith in Shindico getting something that substantial done. Maybe CF will pull them along. CF could also just develop their own property separately from Shindico.

How tf did Shindico end up with the old stadium site again? They know people?

That being said, it is a large project. It's only been a year since that announcement. They were waiting on the airport thingy. I assume they're trying to find money at this point. So maybe we'll hear some news this summer.

This!^ Dominion Centre has a good mix of shops and services but it's shabby and sketchy and desperately needs a rethink. I might add that the parking lot is utterly terrifying during peak hours. It's like the wild west in there.
