I rode by yesterday, it looks like apartments are on the lower floors, has this always been the plan? I was under the assumption that it would all be office/commercial space, then the skinny tower on top?

Yes, apartments are part of the plan on the lower section of the podium facing W Peachtree to screen the parking deck from the street. There will be balconies as low as the second floor i believe.

Alexan on 8th (at 880 West Peachtree) was completed about six years ago, and its parking decks are also shielded from the front and one side by apartments.

Yes, the Alexan is a nice example as well. I don't mean to say that 1072 is the first to do it. Its just that so many of the apartment towers we see do a sub-optimal job at shielding decks from public view. Another example i like a lot is Modera Midtown. If i could choose one midrise template to plop down all over the place, it would be like that.

This building is really shooting up. On the south facing wall, the facade work is pretty substantial.
