I don't think its accurate that previous generations of car thieves were unorganized. Did no one here live through the 90s? Organized crime moved away from car theft when mass adoption of engine immobilizer technology in new cars made it no longer worthwhile to steal cars, but have jumped back in now that keyless FOBs have made stealing cars easy again.

If insurance companies actually cared about their customers, they'd start pushing auto manufacturers to phase out keyless FOBs. But I suspect they're happy for the excuse to jack premiums, so they don't actually care. More costs = more margin.
