Echo Park. My grandmother had an apartment on Laguna Street that overlooked the park (before the Episcopal Diocese expanded its headquarters). One of the few pictures of my mother as a child was taken at the park in 1929 when she was nine. Even now it strikes me as a serene but lively sanctuary in urban L.A.
