You can't really judge downtown London right now because Dundas & Talbot Streets are completely ripped up due to both becoming "flex streets". The parts that are now done look very handsome.

The downtown big mall, Galleria London, suffered what many mid-size city malls did when Eaton's closed down which anchored many of them. The mall will never be the one it once was but actually it was London that pioneered the repurposing of their downtown mall which most cities then followed. The first big move to keep the huge mall from being vacant was moving their Central Library there and also opening movie theatres, educational institutions, and work spaces.

Yes it's true London is a VERY good restaurant city and has a lot of sidewalk cafes and patios downtown, in Wortley Village, and especially along Richmond Row.
