Police break up an attempted march on City Hall by the unemployed, Jan. 1930.....the demonstration was inspired by the International Communist Party, hence the papers dubbed the protest "Red Riots".

L.A. Bargain House hardware shows at 154 S. Main St.

Dobson & Co. was at 151 S. Main, they were dealers in second-hand clothing.

This photo courtesy the Stetson Kennedy papers at Georgia State University....text on the back of the picture:

"Reds riot in Los Angeles. Three police officers were injured and eight communists were arrested in riots at Los Angeles, Calif., January 20th, when officers thwarted attempts to hold a "hunger march" on the City Hall. This picture shows a cop getting a little rough treatment by the crowd and a motorcycle officer hurrying to his aid."
