You can't always make everyone happy. If we're always pandering to a certain minority, nothing will ever get done even if it benefits the greater vast majority of the population.

It can hinder the pedestrian experience, but if designed properly it doesn't have to. A little more walking isn't going to kill anyone either, but crossing the road certainly could.

Again, it's a horrible idea to pedestrianize the street level of this area considering the importance and high volumes of the road routes.
