The building with the "Coffee" sign at the top of the steps is the Auto Club building, with the High School to its left.

The building in the background of e_r's Burkshire detail appears to be this one near the north portal of Hill Street tunnel. I'm sure we've seen this 1961 photo before, but I could only find a similar image with the building just out-of-shot.
