Foundation for Texas Tower gets Texas-size concrete pour

The pour occurred three weeks ahead of schedule, according to Hines, which will have its global headquarters in the building upon completion in late 2021. The 47-story tower, going up at 845 Texas Ave. between Milam and Travis on the former site of the Houston Chronicle newspaper, will rise more than 700 feet. The pour, which used 120 concrete trucks to unload 13,799 cubic yards of concrete, took 20 hours and started Saturday afternoon. A new truck arrived every 45 seconds to fill the diagonally-placed foundation, which is eight feet thick at the perimeter and 12 feet thick in the middle. The foundation used 1,500 tons of reinforcing steel.
