Unless I misread, nobody claimed any of the wow-shape buildings were "bland" or "facadist", only that they are NOT progressive.
Progressive does not mean "pretty", nor "cool". It means "advocating reform". Geometric sculpturalism has been around for decades and is widely accepted in the architectural community as the pinnacle of the profession. It is not dangerous or in any way risky for an architect to propose a building in that style. That means buildings in the style are by definition NOT progressive buildings. They may (or may not) be pretty, cool, functional, prize-winning, or any number of other positive or negative adjectives, but by continuing the current trend rather than pushing the envelope of what's accepted, they are the exact opposite of "progressive".
