If you're talking about 35 HY, the "excavation" is the ongoing drilling of the caissons down into the bedrock. For this tower the caissons are being drilled between the LIRR tracks in the NW corner of the East Rail Yard. The NY NY FB photo below MIGHT show the caisson drill nearest the 11th Ave viaduct drilling one of those caissons.
Looking WSW, column assembly on the south side of 33rd street. The 11th Ave. viaduct ~bisects the photo horizontally. 35 HY will go around where the furthest yellow drill and the train at the covered platform are on photo right. You can see that they temporarily shut down a strip of 3? tracks for the caisson drills, white hydraulic crane and associated equipment. I'm also assuming they will demolish the brown roofed train platform to drill caissons for 35 HY columns and then rebuild platform for train maintenance operations.
