It doesn't appear that it would too difficult a task to actually reconstruct the arches. Of course, if they were to do that the building would no longer be suitable for a post office.

臺北郵局為日據中期之建築，此期之特徵多用褐色面磚

日據當初利用民房當郵局，１８９８年建於北門街附近，形式為二樓木造建築，當時為考慮與車站（在今鄭州路）之關係才設於北門內。其址在現郵局南鄰，為洋風日本瓦之建築，但在１９１３年失火全毀，至１９２６年才重建。主要為Ｉ型鋼樑Ｒ.Ｃ.結構，壁體為２Ｂ磚造。
由總督府營繕課設計。立面貼褐色面磚，有柱式及拱窗，光復後拆去入口門廳（Porch），改貼大理石，甚不調和，同時增建一層。

I don't see why not tho? This building was angled at well over 250 degree. Postal trunks entrances were also made on both sides. At least save the front faciae no?
