What is that round thing embedded in the marble step?..It looks similar to a survey marker.

On KFI radio on Sat. night they had a 2 hour interview with a retired LAPD detective, Steve Hodel, who said he is almost certain his father, who was a surgeon, was the killer of Eliz. Short, and may have murdered other women as well. He wrote a book about it. He also said Chief Parker and other former LAPD high ups consider the "Black Dalia" case solved, but not cleared. For some reason they didn't want to arrest and charge the surgeon, who died about 30 years ago. In the interview the retired LAPD detective said Steve Lopez of the LA Times wrote about the case a few years ago, and concluded that the doctor father of the LAPD detective Hodel may indeed have been the killer of Short. A very noirish tale indeed.
