Uh, what? Where did I say expect no accidents? Accidents can occur on both separated bike lanes and bike lanes on the road, and yes, bike lanes are better than nothing at all. However, a protected bike lane would offer a more pleasant biking experience and have far less accidents than a regular bike lane, by eliminating collisions with vehicles and "dooring".
