The McDonald's restaurant just north of here (reflected in the window near the bus) received their Certificate of Occupancy at the end of November, 1979. This photo was likely taken after that.

The restaurant and bar on the south side of the station with the wedge-shaped sign and the flagstone wall, was originally called The Grapevine Room.

The station was designed by architect Kenneth R. Swift in 1955. Los Angeles Times 24 Oct 1965 notes that he was the associate architect of the big bus terminal on 6th Street downtown designed by Welton Becket and opened in 1967.
