I've also struggled to duplicate the LAPL image with GSV. Looking at Historic Aerials, I think the photo was taken near the end of Bawley Street. The 1948 and 1952 images show a couple of long traffic islands on Alhambra Avenue (I've used the 1952 image below). The road layout has gradually changed over the years, and a fairly recent bridge across the railroad tracks just southwest of here has eliminated the need for a grade crossing below the Legacy Autobody Shop label on the Google map.
