RTD owns the Golden Subdivision but there are economically important freight customers on both sides of the line which would require at least one expensive flyover to build out.
That said it would be a pretty easy extension if RTD bought some electric locomotives, installed the same PTC as the commuter rail, and hauled the freight themselves to the BNSF or UP yard between passenger trains or off peak.
