Apart from the very central downtown area of Indianapolis, I found the city to be pretty textbook Midwest rustbelt. The city seems to be built around the convention centre, with tons of surface parking and gaps in the fabric. Almost all of the inner city neighbourhoods adjacent to downtown feature far more urban blight than Columbus, and without the benefit of a flagship State University and the contiguous commercial strip connecting it to the core.
