It's good to see a long-struggling community in the County working to redevelop its business district... but WTF is this??

Seriously, this is what they came up with? Someone was paid to design this? And the powers that be in Union City chose this?!

This echoes BAD early 1990s shit.

Union City chooses a design for planned downtown 'gateway'

Quote:
UNION CITY — There will be a new landmark in Union City after the former Union City Dinor is demolished.

A committee working on a new "gateway" to the borough's downtown has settled on a design for the project at the intersection of Main and High streets.

A concrete plaza enclosed by low brick walls will be built where the dilapidated diner now stands. Next to the plaza, brick pillars will support a hipped roof over a stairway to a lower-level municipal parking lot.

An artistic panel behind the hipped roof would mirror its design.

A former church building beside the diner will get an exterior makeover to complement the gateway design.

The gateway also will include brick pillars at the intersection, a hydraulic lift from the parking lot and a mural at nearby Industrial Park.

"The proposed gateway development will provide a new entrance landmark and a powerful first impression that will welcome and help draw visitors to downtown, restore pride in and celebrate the heritage of Union City, inspire future development, and support the local economy."
