I've heard before from different sources that In-n-Out never wanted to open a store more than a day's drive away from their headquarters in Los Angeles. They have opened stores in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada (mostly in the last ten years), which I've been told by Californians can be done within a day. I think they're expanding even more, however, because the family that owns it is batshit crazy and now strapped for cash.
