Liugong Island is located Weihai Bay, at the east end of Shandong Peninsula. It is very close to downtown Weihai City, only 20 minutes distance by tour ship.

1888年，北洋海军成军时，在岛上设电报局、水师学堂、建北洋海军提督署、建码头，成为中国近代第一支海军北洋水师的诞生地。
1894年，中日甲午海战就发生在该岛东部海域。如今，它成为著名的旅游观光地。
