This is Downtown Phoenix (aka Sterling Network) Exchange, a major, major datacenter, not just in Phoenix but certainly ranks among the nation's largest. Just about everybody connects through here.

http://www.carrierhotels.com/propert...pte/dpte.shtml

tells us this about their network capacity:

Quote:
The building is a recognized fiber crossroad on almost every national network backbone. Multiple fiber entrances and vaults. Two dozen carriers/providers currently serve the building, including AT&T, Qwest, Sprint, MCI, Global Crossing, Level(3), XO, Cox, Time Warner Telecom, Allegiance Telecom, SRP Telecom, MFN, Citizens/ELI, WilTel, Savvis, PureGig and Clear Sky Broadband.

DPTE is adjacent to the largest joint trench in the country (21 carriers). Numerous additional providers are in the street adjacent to the building and/or have confirmed that service is available to DPTE, including: Cable & Wireless, Broadwing, InterNAP, McLeod USA, AGL Networks and Touch America.
Yes it's ugly. But having this downtown is pretty frickin cool. And it was sold recently for a LOT of money ... $130 million seems to be the figure I remember.

Another building with similar use is the 3800 Tower, which if you've heard of Easynews, their servers are there and it's also a SourceForge mirror. These are some of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Internet.

Sorry about that.

Excellent photos HX!
