The "New Hotel" signage behind the
Van Fleet was the "New Hotel
Elmar" at 235 S Hope St, one block east.

Note Cinnabar running parallel and 2nd/Hope/retaining wall at upper right beneath the Chandler (the "New Hotel Elmar" shot was taken from here, facing toward us). Now, note the low date palm to the right of the Van Fleet in er's image; I believe that's the same date palm in the above shot, halfway up the block toward 2nd.
