Lots of fun to compare the 2 photos. I moved here in 1982 and saw the end of construction of the GA Pacific building and have enjoyed watching every highrise go up since that time. One of the best memories was watching a helicopter place the gold cupola on top of the old IBM tower.
My family relocated from upstate New York to Atlanta in 1974 and I've been here pretty much since then. I was a 7th grader then. In 1980 during my freshman year at GA Tech, I was living in Smith Dorm. I watched the BellSouth tower get built directly across the downtown connector from me. In my early years at Law Engineering I watched the IBM tower, with its slip form concrete core, getting built as I made my runs to Wolf Camera to develop the photos I took at project sites (yes kids, we used to have get photos developed!).
