A municipal committee has recommended that a development proposal for the city’s north end go ahead, with the caveat that staff work with the developer to include affordable housing. But Halifax has no power to compel developers to make their units more affordable.

WM Fares Architects applied on behalf of the property owner, BANC Investments Inc., to construct a 17-storey residential building at 2859 Robie St., between Macara and Bilby streets — currently a vacant property.
