The sangha (Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha) wanted a parallel overbridge to be built. At present, one side of the road from Udupi to Manipal on NH 169A was on a higher elevation than the other side of road. It would be better if both were at the same height, Mr. Dias said.

Meanwhile, sources in the National Highways Division of the Public Works Department overseeing the widening work of NH 169A said that the existing railway overbridge was a three span bridge. The new overbridge, which will be constructed next to the existing overbridge, because of the widened NH 169A, would be a single span bridge. It would be 58 metres long and 12 metres wide.

KRCL was yet to approve of the general arrangement drawing for the overbridge. A meeting would be held on Saturday. Since it will be a single span bridge, its height will be higher than the existing overbridge. Hence, to match the height of the planned new overbridge, the approach road on either sides had been constructed at an elevation, the sources said.

DC asked to submit proposal for ring road in Udupi

District In-charge Secretary M Maheshwar Rao directed Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha to submit a proposal to lay a ring road in Udupi in order to ease the traffic congestion.

“The proposal should include documents related to the survey conducted for a ring road,” the secretary instructed.

Following Jagadeesha’s emphasis on the need for a ring road to ease traffic congestion, Rao directed the officials concerned to submit a detailed report and a blue print on upgrade of the stretch from Athradi to the Mangaluru airport.

Speaking further, he said that the officials should identify the land to set up a fisheries college in Udupi. “Officials should also identify the need to promote integrated farming after consulting the officials of the Agriculture, Horticulture and Fisheries departments,” he instructed.

ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಪರಿಹಾರವಾಗಿ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಮಾರ್ಗದ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ರೈಲು ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರ ಸಂಘ ಮಂಡಿಸಿತ್ತು. ನಂದಿಕೂರು, ಕಾರ್ಕಳ, ಬಜಗೋಳಿ, ಉಜಿರೆ, ಚಾರ್ಮಾಡಿ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಗಿ ಸೋಮನಾಡು ಸೇತುವೆ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಂಗದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಗಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹಾರದಿಂದ ಮೂಡಿಗೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರೈಲು ಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಜೋಡಣೆಯಾಗಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಸಾಗುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ನಂದಿಕೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ ಆಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಈ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. ಇವುಗಳು ಸದ್ಯ ಜೀವ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳು ಕ್ಷೀಣಿಸಿವೆ.

ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಮಾರ್ಗ

ಮಂಗಳೂರು-ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ರೈಲು ಮಾರ್ಗದ ಶಿರಾಡಿ, ಸಕಲೇಶಪುರ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ರೈಲು ಸಂಚಾರ ವೇಳೆ ಹಲವು ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಭೂಕುಸಿತ, ರೈಲ್ವೇ ಹಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ದೋಷ ಘಟಿಸಿ ರೈಲು ಸಂಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಯಗಳು ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಸಂಚಾರಕ್ಕೆ ತಡೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ.ಈ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ರೈಲು ಯಾನ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುವ ಆತಂಕ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ರೈಲ್ವೇ ಮಾರ್ಗ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವವನ್ನು ಉಡುಪಿ ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರ ಸಂಘ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರಕಾರದ ಮುಂದೆ ಇರಿಸಿತ್ತು.

Bicycle track planned on Udupi-Manipal Road

The district administration is planning to develop a 5km bicycle track on the Udupi-Manipal stretch of National Highway 169A here.

Small trees should be planted along cycle track to provide canopy over cycle track for shadow but tree canopy should not cover the main road so that pollution from vehicles can escape to outer atmosphere without toxicating cycle track and footpath.
