Cost Plus is opening up in Tulsa marking the first Oklahoma location joining Trader Joe's and Costco who have recently been the first Oklahoma stores for those chains.

It is to be in the Midtown Village Shopping Center and no final opening date has been set.

Cost Plus World Market is coming to Tulsa, the company confirmed Friday evening. It would be the specialty retailer’s first store in Oklahoma.
The company plans to open a store at 5356 E. Skelly Drive in the MidTown Village shopping center, according to a building permit the company received this week. That would be next to Bed Bath & Beyond, which is owned by the same parent company. Electronics retailer Best Buy is in the same plaza.
Spokeswoman Jill Osaka said in an email to the Tulsa World that the Oakland, California-based company does not have an opening date yet.

World Market is known for its home furniture, decor and accessories. Over the past few years, it has been named as one of the most desired retailers without a Tulsa presence, according to Tulsa’s Young Professionals’ annual “Bring it to Tulsa” list.

MidTown Village is about a mile from Tulsa Promenade, Southroads Shopping Center and is just off Interstate 44. It’s a common strategy for retailers to be located just off interstates and near other retail establishments. The shopping center, despite its location, has seen its share of vacancies since it opened in 2005.

City Councilor Karen Gilbert of District 5 said, “It’s exciting to see Tulsa recruiting more retailers that we haven’t been able to bring here.” Gilbert used the recent opening of Trader Joe’s as an example.

“I’m really happy that World Market has decided to make District 5 their new home in Tulsa. That shopping center has been vacant for many years.”
