Remember - Lufthansa used to fly out of PHX back before the economy tanked. But our population continues to grow - and we still have one of the 7 wonders of the world in our state. AZ remains a 'highly unique' place and curiosity to many outside the country. Just is not easy to get them here - though that seems to be changing. One hops from London and Frankfurt help a lot.
IIRC - Paris is the #2 international destination behind London in Europe for travelers originating from PHX. Also - Korean Airlines is training pilots in Prescott @ Embry Riddle University. So perhaps we can see flights to Paris and Seoul in our future. But we may need more wide body capacity and slightly more business travel to those locations to justify new, direct routes.
