hkskyline's 2017 in Toyama, Japan
Continuing my rediscovery of previously forgotten trip photos, here is a batch left over from my 2017 adventure in Japan's Chubu region, which wraps around Nagoya. For those heading to the Alpine route, you will pass by
Toyama
at some point of your journey. This castle town was a medicine distribution centre during feudal times. The city was almost entirely destroyed during World War II bombing raids, and the glass industry emerged afterwards.
Traditional medicines on offer in modern packaging at this historic shop :
The city fronts the Sea of Japan so there is fresh seafood available.
Toyama prospered from the Kitamaebune sea trade from the 17th to 19th centuries. The port area has some historic buildings and is easily accessible by tram.
