Umm maybe you can start with trying not get triggered by the idea that helping other people does not hurt you in only the slightest of ways and may even be helpful? There are 114,000 homeless children - about 10% - attending NYC public schools. Imagine the anvil around their lives and the generations before them. A fancy food hall is nice and all, but it sure would be nice if there were places for people to live, too, and not have to take 3 transfers each way and a bus to get a decent job.
