Glad the city didn't back down and is restoring the lane. It's features like this that make Savannah's urban fabric unique and special.

Under the proposal going before the Savannah City Council on Thursday, the city would buy back a portion of the downtown site where a historic lane will be restored as part of a development project there. The cost would be based off a rate of $97.17 per square foot, and the total cost is estimated to be about $1 million. The city would also reimburse the proposed buyer of the site up to $225,000 to compensate for the cost of development plans that are no longer viable due to the city’s acquisition of the lane.

“They had to start over,” said city spokesman Ken Slats. “The dynamics of that have changed.”
