Last week I went to a presentation at local chapter of Institute of Classical Architecture and heard Mark Appleton speak on his family home "Florestal" on the Hope Ranch. Built by his grandparents, and in their family until 1980.

I like a classic red brick with limestone or precast sills, if you can get an older brick look either the color or texture. Or you could go with an inexpensive brick and paint it an elegant dark grey/taupe color with black framed windows could look great.
