Tax dollars for sports infrastructure has merit. Tax dollars for an amusement/water park does not. Swimming pools are an investment in the health/fitness of everyone. It has far greater benefit than installing amusement rides for 5-10 year olds. Besides, kids playing on a slide would just get in the way of people trying to swim and swimming is the whole point of a swimming pool.

And there's something wrong if we need to install play things to get a child to a pool.
