When you think about the size, this thing is hauling big time! Glory to the motherland city.

One Vanderbilt’s steel superstructure finally rises above ground

Quote:
The steel superstructure for what will eventually be NYC’s second tallest tower is now going up, new construction site photos by NyConstructionPhoto have revealed. Eventually this office tower will stand 1,401-feet tall, and have an observation deck located over 1,000 feet above ground—one of the highest in the city.

Following a groundbreaking ceremony for the building last year, construction at the site has been humming right along. Foundation work got underway in February this year, and developer SL Green announced shortly afterward that the building would start going vertical in May.

The first steel column for the structure was erected in June, and one of the cranes that lift the thousands of tons of steel and concrete arrived on site in August. Last month, the developer offered us a peek at a mock up of what the building’s glass and terra cotta facade will look like. The building’s Instagram account is pretty active, and it’s the place to go if you want the latest construction updates on the project.

This Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed supertall is scheduled for completion in 2020.
