I think about this all the time, but I always come to the conclusion that if they need to fit more people in, they'd find a way. Like, I don't see a scenario where BC cities stop growing because they're so constrained geographically. It would actually be cool to see in the distant future if this results in a very different built form in places like Kamloops and Kelowna, with them being much denser than typical cities of 300,000 to 500,000.
