9/11 Memorial Preview Site Opens Near WTC
The exhibition site at 20 Vesey Street.

Visiting the big dig at the World Trade Center site can be a bit confusing, so those in charge of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum have opened a 9/11 Memorial Preview Site nearby to give the curious throngs of onlookers a place to see what's to come, eventually. The exhibition at 20 Vesey Street is a long block away from where steel is rising for the Freedom Tower (One World Trade Center). It's outfitted by the same team that will be handling the exhibition spaces inside the museum, the designs of which were recently revealed.
The space is simply laid out but full of information about the WTC, both before and after the 9/11 attacks. Centrally displayed is a large model of the WTC site (at least what it might look like), with videos from Project Rebirth playing on a screen above. Also on display is a Statue of Liberty replica that used to stand outside a firehouse on Eighth Avenue near Times Square, and was covered with mementos in the dark days following that sunny September morning. Given that this is a city of commerce, assorted merchandise is available that will help to support the construction of the Memorial and Museum, including the official t-shirt for the big event coming up on September 10, Fashion's Night Out, as well as trinkets from the NYPD and FDNY.
Models, renders and video show visitors what's to come at the WTC site.
Project Rebirth crafted a four-minute film especially for visitors to the Preview Site;
included are interviews with nine people directly affected by the attacks of 9/11.
The space is directly across the street from St. Paul's Chapel and the WTC site.
