West Harbour townhouse project for sale by June, says developer

A vacant patch of land on the west harbour is set to be transformed into a new townhouse development modeled after Toronto's Liberty Village.
Burlington-based development company Dawn Victoria homes has just purchased the empty lot at Barton Street West and Crooks Street and is in the process of submitting its planning documents to the city.
If all goes according to plan, the townhouses will be hitting the market in June.
"We're very positive about what's going to happen," said Don Husak, president of Dawn Victoria.
The project is the first tangible sign of development in the west harbour area in years.
The triangular lot, bordered by Crook Street homes to the west, the CN rail tracks to the north, an empty ravine area to the east and Barton Street to the south, has been vacant for at least 20 years.
CN owned the site until the late 1990s, when the railroad company sold it to a brownfield redeveloper. In 2001 and 2002, council rezoned the westerly two-thirds of the property for townhouses.
The site has sat empty because there were multiple claims to ownership of the site. A previous development project — a mid-rise condo proposal pitched about five years ago — fell through, amid confusion over the title. Since then, there has been interest in the site but its cloudy ownership has stymied development.
