I've lived here in Austin all these years and didn't know half of what you described regarding the history of the buildings. Thanks so much for doing that.

I enjoyed seeing the Manuel's restaurant photo (3rd at Congress). I ate there with friends every Sunday night for over 20 years. Never had a bad meal there. Best margaritas anywhere!

"W" used to eat there on Sunday nights when he was Governor and when he was running for President. The clientele of Manuel's was not the kind that would be inclined to agree with him on much of anything, but was always polite to him and vice versa. Bill Clinton would get a much more enthusiastic reception among the clientele but he chooses to eat at Guerro's when he's here. One time at Manuel's I saw an "elderly" gentleman walk by and take a seat in the booth behind us. It turned out to be Clint Eastwood! He certainly looked different out of makeup. Anyway, Manuel's is quite a legend in this town. It will always be my favorite place to eat and drink.
